If you were writing a review about Rough Kutz, how would you
describe the band?

Disorganised, unprofessional, honest, up for a laugh, down to earth, & naive

Has any band member played in other bands, if so what?

Hazza was in a ska band called The Silence in the early 80's but left when he realised he couldn't actually play anything. Rat plays guitar for Section 5.

What are the main themes in the lyrics?

Things that have happened to us or on our estate when we were growing up. Pros and cons of being working class i.e.; crap jobs crime, unemployment, poverty & women

If you could see any band play live, either of the past or present who would it be?

Would have loved to have seen the Sex Pistols when it was first breaking. The atmosphere must have been ace especially with all the crowd making there own punk fashions instead of just wearing leather jackets & growing mohicans. Or the early Specials gigs for similar reasons.

Do you do any covers in your live set, if so what?

We do about 3 in a set of 20 songs.they vary from gig to gig but we always try and do our version of the song and not just be a copy of the original otherwise we would be as bad as the cheesy tribute bands out there. Covers we usually choose from are: Rough Rider, Dawning Of A New Era, Johnny Too Bad, Teenage Warning, Skinhead Moonstomp, Murder, Noise In This World, Runaround Sue

What is the best sentence you have ever heard, that someone has managed to get into a song's lyrics?

"Here's your room and here's you records here's your home, here you'll stay, here's somewhere i don't believe in here's someone to take it all away" -- The Edge S.L.F. - Brilliant songwriting.

Plans, gigs and releases planned for 2001.

We are recording a new album at the moment which we hope will go down as well as the last one. We are doing a couple of short european tours starting with Germany and are continuing to play ska/punk/scooterist gigs across the country. Above all we intend to have as much fun this year as we always have.

Any final comments?

Thanks for the interview, keep up the good work with the web site cos information is everything and lets all keep supporting our scene cos no one will do it for us.

Cheers
The Rough Kutz
