Please give a brief history of the band, including current line up.
We started the devotchkas in late 1996 and we didnt start
playing out untill the summer of '97. the original lineup was steph on vocals,
mande on guitar, jon on drums and me,(alaine), on bass.we found a new drummer
when jon joined the casualties, and since he already was singing for the
Krays, being in our band would be somewhat difficult since he already had
2 other bands. so we ended going through 2 other drummers that didnt work
out. now we have Gabrielle on drums and she completes our current lineup
Discography.
We were on the compilation "PUNX UNITE" and another comp
called "Nothing Can Go Wrong" and we have a s/t debut 7" EP out on PUNKCORE
records. we will soon be releasing a 2nd 7'' EP , also on punkcore, which
should be out later this year.
Describe your sound. Also do you get compared with other female
singers and does that piss you off, as it does not seem to happen to blokes
as much.
I would describe us as oi! influenced punk....we dont
really get compared to other bands very often.
What is the funniest thing that has happened to you whilst
touring?
We havent toured yet...but we are looking foward towards
touring.
What is the best gig Devotchkas have ever done and who else
was on the line-up?
The best show we played was this past june at CBGB's with
the Krays, Infiltrators, Truents, and Polyabuse. That had to be one of our
best shows.
What is the first record each member of the band ever bought?
For me, it had to be a Misfits record, Mandes first record,
Im guessing would be a Ramones.
What is the favourite song (and what band is it by) of each
member of the band?
Stephs favorite song has to be Sorry by the 4-skins...
right now mine would be Immunity by uxa, mande's is make it on my own by the
Expelled, Gabrielles is Last Rockers by Vice Squad.
What is the Punk/Oi scene like in your area?
Right now , its not that great here in NY. A lot of the
venues have been closing down due to mayor guiliani's tight assed ways, so
that leaves nowhere for shows or a scene to thrive off of.
Plans, gigs and releases planned for 99.
We have another 7"ep to be released and a few shows coming
up but thats about it.
