The Blood Interview
13/08/2007
Was it a hard decision to bring the band back together,
and who is playing with the band these days?
It would have been hard if The Blood were not such an immanent and immaculate
conception ... thus The Blood's work has its own cathexis and ... it would
probably be one of the best bands in the world if i had not have been such
a lazy cunt ... but seriously it was/is hard because JJ was as good as
it gets ... and i mean when it comes to all dimensions of creative skill
and involving talent music and wit ...
The Blood at this moment are ...
The Cardinal - vocals and guitar ... Richard 'orrible' Hogben - drums ...
The Transylvanian Transvestite - vocals and keyboards ... Dave Shit - bass
guitar ... but D Shit is only available now and again so we still need
bass player for the band ...
You started looking for a new bassist around
a year ago - how did the search go and has he got a 'stage' name
sorted?
When are you planning to start playing
gigs again? Did you all stay involved in music whilst the band
split?
gigs so as possible ... and i did not stay in music ... i studied
law and human rights ...
What has been the
high point and lowest point of the bands history? Would you do anything
different?
highest point i think yet to come ...
lowest point JJ's death ...
i would not change a thing ...
Is your music and punk in general as relevant
today as when you first started? Are you writing new material and if
yes, is easier or harder this time round? What influences you?
the work the band is doing now is relevant it ... the new style is different
coz JJ's guitar work aint there and i do not want some one to copy it so
we will use keyboards instead with the old stuff ... back in the day JJ
and myself were both anarchistic hedonistic and nihilistic ... JJ's trajectory
remained in that flow and he honoured his own commitment to roick n roll
... Townsend said 'i hope i die before i get old' ... JJ new he was going
to do that and often told me so ... i respect that ...
i used the anger in a different way ... as an energy to understand learn
how to challenge the seemingly unchallengeable ... im talking about corporate
mercurialism or one dimesional thinking ... and how to penetrate it ...
for example the global slavery or human trafficking or the fundamentalistic
religious matrix of dispair and paradoxically the apathy those phenomena
... i think the nuances of what influences me now are there if you read
between the lines ... if its easy i dont want it and if it aint hard its
good for nothing ... on the other hand i might just be overflowing with
crap from every available orifice ...
What bands do you hear the Blood influence
in? And are there any particularly good or bad the Blood covers you
have heard over the years? Is there any band you would feel particularly
honoured if they covered a
the Blood song? If so, who?
i would be honoured if any band covered our work as long as they aint
facists - The Blood have been influence by all things ...
Tell the readers five facts about
the band / band members they will not know
at doc wild things audition he came in the room sat down picked up the
drum sticks and throw up over all over the kit then smashed it up before
he hit the snare ... then within a nano second he asked if he was in
or not ...
the bloods first roadie andy fordham - the viking - became the embassy
world darts champion in 2004 ...
the bloods first manager garry billingham who wrote the words to false
gestures songs - mesrine and rule 43 was stabbed and killed on the kent
coast as a very young man ...
i left school at 13 and started a phd @ goldsmiths college - university
of london - 30 years later ...
the blood have a cult following all over the world and they did not even
know it ...
30 years of punk - something to celebrate or embarrassing
commercialism? Describe punk at the beginning of the 21st century.
punk's theatre of entertaiment now needs to have political-humanity
... it has to be real ... people have to feel it ... and i do not just
mean empathy ... i mean it has to have magic in its art form so as to
potentially and powerfully impact on an individual's life ... because
of the birth of a technological transparency we now have different possiblities
... we can see the world and the world can see us ... i mean we feel
it ... and we feel others ... in a way that we never have before ...
a friend said to me once that authentic aestHETICS has ethics in it somewhere
if we look hard enough ...
Plans, gigs and releases planned for 2007.
when enough of the new filmic-musical-work is ready i will work
with the band right accross the globe ... there seems to be a
big following in california ... it might be a place to get back
on the road ... i intend to work with the band until 2020 ...
hopefully i will have dates to give you soon ...
Any final comments?
Stop Human Trafficking - 'Kill The Pimps' - is the first Blood song
in the serious of work about the horrific brutality of Human Trafficking
... what would you do if it were your sister or daughter ... a popular
movement will make a difference to the abuse of these modern day sex-slaves
who get fucked 24/7... do something about it ... if you do not know what
to do get in touch @ ... www.myspace.com/theblood
thanks for the interview -
cheers the cardinal
