Please give a brief history of the band, including current line up.
We (Chris-vocals/bass and Lee-vocals/lead guitar) formed
the band in March 2001 as a three piece with a friend on drums, but he quit
that September. We then took a break for a few months and played our next
gig nine months later, this time as a four piece with Tom on rhythm guitar
and Martin on drums. We then played quite a few gigs before Martin quit,
and Pez joined on drums a few weeks later. That is where the current line-up
stands.
Discography.
In December 2002 we recorded the 'Terminate With Extreme
Prejudice' EP at Whitehouse Studios in Kewstoke-the CD can be bought through
our website.
How did you come up with the name Valdez and what other names
of bands
which are about do you like?
We basically decided that the Exxon Valdez oil disaster
was hilarious.
As for other bands, Anal Cunt is quite a good name, and Dogshit Sandwich always
seems to get a chuckle. And of course Sick on the Bus.
If you were writing a review about Valdez, how would you describe
the band?
Lee describes it as 'art rock noise terrorism', but we
all agree its pretty much a fusion of the Dead Kennedys, Black Flag and early
Manics, crossed with Joy Division-quite a mix! Best thing to do is to check
out our MP3 at www.mp3.com/valdez__uk_ and
hear it for yourself.
You are all pretty young, do you see that as a help, a hinderance
or does that not come into it? What do you all do as well as the band?
Well its better than being a crusty old punk and milking
former glories, but at the same time a lot of people assume that because
we are young, we must be naive and blind, which we disagree with. Overall,
being young is better-there's a lot more energy in our music because of it.
What is the favourite song (and what band is it by) of each member of the band?
Lee:'Motown Junk' by the Manic Street Preachers.
Chris:'Last Caress' by the Misfits.
Tom:Anything by the Smiths!
Pez:'The Possibility of Life's Destruction' by Discharge.
What is the first gig each member of the band ever went to?
Chris:AC/DC.
Lee/Tom:Mansun.
Pez:UK Subs.
What is the Punk/Oi scene like in your area? and what can
people do to make it better?
There isn't really much of a scene at all-there's us and
Bad Blood, but thats about it. All the other local bands tend to play static
shit and seem to be pretty false.
Plans, gigs and releases planned for 2003.
We have a European tour coming up this July, followed
by tons of gigs in England so we're pretty busy. We also have a track coming
out on 'Too Much Horror Business'-a tribute to the Misfits, and a possible
split release with Bad Blood. We're also appearing on a few compilations.
Any final comments?
Lee:London England, consider yourself warned.
Chris:Question everything. The revolution WILL be televised and t-shirts will
be made. Let the whores have their trinkets.Oh, and if anyone wants to give
us a gig (especially London), email us at chrisbo@lycos.com
